Red Hat Portal Server is the open source Portal solution. The Red Hat Portal Server aggregates both local and remote content within a configurable framework that supports multiple languages in its user interface and pervasive devices such as WAP, XHTML, and VoiceXML in its rendering pipeline. Portals can be built and targeted for the individual, for work groups or teams, for people with a common set of interests, and for large corporations and organizations.

There is extensive list of use cases for Red Hat Portal Server, including:
- Creating a Portal from scratch, from a template, or by cloning an existing Portal.
- Naming a Portal, and associating a description or mission statement with it.
- Administering people associated with a Portal, including setting read, write, modify, delete, and administrator privileges.
- Adding, deleting, and reordering tabs in a Portal. Tabs within a Portal can help organize content and available applications into separate Portal views.
- Adding and removing portlets within a Portal tab.
- Customizing a Portal by choosing a layout and arranging the portlets where desired.
- Personalizing a Portal by choosing look and feel elements such as color scheme, background images, and other rendering attributes.
- Globalizing all admin user interface labels for multiple language support.
These use cases have all been implemented in the current version of Red Hat Portal Server. In addition to the features listed above, the Portal Server integrates directly with our Collaboration Applications from the Red Hat Applications family:
- Discussion Forum
- Document Manager
- Tasks
- Urgent Request Notification
- Bookmarking
- Chat
Red Hat Portal Server is a configured quickly and easily. Portal pages can be built from ready-made templates. If the templates provided do not meet the needs of a deployment administrator, a custom template can be built and saved, or portal pages can be built from the ground up. This allows a portal to be customized for a user's personal workspace, a department within an organization, or for an enterprise-wide purpose.
