The Red Hat Linux Secure Server packages are provided in RPM format, so you can install
the packages using RPM from the command line.
To begin the installation process, you must first mount the CD-ROM.
Place the Secure Web Server CD in your CD-ROM drive. As root, type
the following command to mount the installation CD:
# mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom |
You may already have an entry in your /etc/fstab
file for the CD-ROM drive, in which case the command:
will mount the CD-ROM drive. Also, on your system, you or the system
administrator may allow users (in addition to root) to mount the
CD-ROM drive. You'll need to be root to use RPM to install the
packages, in any case.
Once you've mounted the CD-ROM drive, the next step is to
cd to the directory on the CD that contains the
RPMs:
Once you're there, use RPM commands to install the packages.
You need to install the openssl and
mod_ssl packages. So, become root (if you aren't
already) and type the following commands:
# rpm -Uvh openssl-0.9.5-2.i386.rpm
openssl ############################
# rpm -Uvh mod_ssl-2.6.2_1.3.12-1.i386.rpm
mod_ssl ############################ |
You'll need to repeat the command for each package you want to
install. If you want to install all of the packages, however, you can
use the same command, like this:
After the previous command, you should see RPM name each package and
show a line of hash marks for each package in the directory.

| | Complete instructions on how to use RPM are included in the
Official Red Hat Linux Reference Guide on the Red Hat Linux 6.2 Documentation
CD. (A condensed version of the same instructions is included in
the Official Red Hat Linux Getting Started Guide.) RPM is a powerful package
management system. Please check the complete instructions on using
RPM if you have any questions about using it.

Once you've finished installing packages, the next step is to create
your key and obtain a certificate. Your Red Hat Linux Secure Server needs these files in
order to run securely. Please continue to Chapter 3
to create your key and certificate.
