NAME

cvupload - CCVS off-line transaction processor

SYNOPSIS

cvupload [-V] configname

DESCRIPTION

The cvupload program processes a batch of off-line transactions, such as sales, returns, and voids. You must run this periodically so that these transactions are actually sent to the processor. If you do not, no money will ever move from one account to another.

We recommend invoking cvupload from your cron system, so it is automatically run without any intervention on your part. You should set it up to run at least once a day.

You must specify the name of the configuration you wish to do processing for. Also, if you used a non-default location for the configuration directory (the location of the CCVS configuration files and transaction queues), you must set the CCVS_CONFIG_DIR environment variable to point to it.

You can check how many transactions cvupload has pending by using the cvcli commands "list ready" or "count ready". The transactions that cvupload will upload are exactly those transactions in the "ready" state. When ccvsd has finished with them, those transactions will be in one of the states "done" or "bad".

If you run cvupload when no transactions are pending, it will exit immediately, without making any phone call.

OUTPUT

cvupload prints "Batch succeeded" or "Batch failed" to stderr after it uploads a batch. It may precede this with a more detailed result line. This result line, if present, is formatted as a set of key-value pairs; it has the form "key {value} key {value} ...". You will always see the key text; its value is the result text returned by the processor. For some protocols, you may also see the key batidnum, whose value is the batch number used.

It is possible that cvupload will upload two or more batches in a single session. This could be because more sales occurred while the first batch was in process, or because the processor specifies an upper limit on the number of transactions in a batch. If several batches are uploaded, cvupload will print a separate "succeeded"/"failed" line (and possibly key-value line) for each batch.

OPTIONS

-V
Display the version of CCVS being used and then exit without performing any work. (This does read the configuration file to ensure that it exists and is valid.)
configname
