Red Hat, the leading provider of open source software, has appointed Unipalm, a distributor of Intranet/Internet, Security and Connectivity software as one of its UK distributors. Unipalm's products include technologies from world leaders in open systems technology, such as Sun-Netscape Alliance, Check Point, Oracle and NetManage. Unipalm will make the full range of Red Hat products available to its UK customers. Mark Norman, Managing Director of Unipalm, comments: "In the midst of the rapidly growing interest in Linux and associated products and services, we are committed to ensuring UK businesses have access to open alternatives to proprietary forms of Unix and Windows NT. Red Hat Linux-based solutions are ideal for fast-growing enterprise business and Internet environments and we are dedicated to offering UK customers the power and flexibility of open source environments." Andy Dickens, European Sales Director, Red Hat Europe, said: "We are pleased to announce the appointment of Unipalm - a company that is very experienced in providing the UK channel with reliable, proven software solutions. This partnership will ensure that customers have access to localised Linux solutions and service providers and that the surge in demand for solutions from open source environments is met. Users and resellers can also be confident that by sourcing Red Hat Linux through Unipalm, they can benefit from expert technical support and advice." Flexible enough for almost any computing need from a simple workstation to powerful server, Red Hat Linux offers additional benefits and security as well as saving users time. Red Hat Linux may be used for a wide variety of purposes including networking, software development, and as an end-user platform. The range of software that is included in Red Hat Linux means it can be used as a server or desktop at work or at home. As a server, the capabilities of Red Hat Linux are abundant. Red Hat Linux can be set up for use as a Web server, e-mail server, DNS server, news server and for multiple sites, with virtual hosting. Additional software is not required as Red Hat Linux contains everything that is required. The popular Apache Web server and sendmail e-mail package allow small intranet servers or even a large virtual hosted server for hundreds of clients to be set up. Packages are included that allow easy client/server relationships on heterogeneous computer networks. Red Hat Linux 6.1 contains the software needed for use as a desktop client such as e-mail, browsers, publishing tools, calendars, Internet tools, and more. The standard user interface combines the power of the X Window System with an easy to configure window manager. Now available from Unipalm, Red Hat Linux 6.1 includes the official version of the operating system on CD-ROM - this comes, unlike the downloadable version, with a full guarantee and technical support. A set of printed manuals are provided in the box set and customers can choose between 30 days of telephone technical installation support or 90 days of installation support via e-mail or fax. Also included, with the Intel version only, is a Linux Applications CD-ROM, featuring a set of binary-only tools from third party software developers.
