Leading stock exchange in the Gulf Cooperation Council region migrates from AIX and Windows to Red Hat Enterprise Linux to transform its world-class securities exchange
RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that the Qatar Exchange, the principal stock market of Qatar and one of the leading stock markets in the Gulf Cooperation Council region (GCC region), has migrated from IBM AIX and Microsoft Windows to Red Hat Enterprise Linux to provide a high-performance trading platform for investors in the Qatari market.
Qatar Exchange was established through a strategic partnership between Qatar Holding and NYSE Euronext on June 2009. Qatar Exchange offers investors the benefits of a world-class securities market and exchange operating sophisticated and state-of-the-art technology systems where speed and accuracy of transactions are key. To deliver this level of service to local and international investors in Qatar, companies and markets demanded a stable, scalable and high-performance, yet cost-effective, IT infrastructure to underpin mission-critical back-office applications and the core trading platform.
With reliable performance and security criteria in mind, Qatar Exchange’s team selected Red Hat as its trusted technology partner, building its mission-critical trading platform and back-office systems on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Network Satellite and Red Hat clustering technologies.
The migration of Qatar Exchange's mission-critical trading applications and databases from IBM AIX to Red Hat Enterprise Linux has since offered improved levels of operational flexibility. Red Hat's open source strategy has also offered Qatar Exchange a long-term infrastructure roadmap based on open source technologies, which offer robust security and ease of management. Red Hat Enterprise Linux was a logical fit as it not only met these criteria but is also the technology platform at NYSE Euronext, which helped to ease integration and enabled homogeneity across the exchanges' IT architectures.
“Qatar Exchange currently executes around 4,000 exchange transactions per day and 12,000 orders per day, making the trading platform a truly mission-critical application that needs to perform reliably under pressure,” said Jassim Bukashisha, IT director at Qatar Exchange. “Unplanned downtime is not an option, so we need to be confident that we have the right technology partner behind us. Red Hat provided us with an enterprise-class solution that is high in performance, incredibly robust and proven to be secure, all at an affordable price without any compromise on performance.”
Qatar Exchange selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux to run its trading applications, while utilizing Red Hat Network Satellite for system updates and Red Hat clustering for maximizing uptime for this vital transaction platform. In addition to Red Hat, the trading platform ecosystem integrates Oracle to run the trading databases and Tomcat for web user interfaces. The system runs on HP - DL 380 rack-mounted servers running Intel x86 CPUs, while providing storage by HP - EVA 4400 and SAN switches by Brocade. In addition, trading applications were provided by NYSE Euronext technologies and the system is equipped to run in-house developed applications.

Barceló Viajes relies on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to consolidate its datacenters in Madrid and Palma de Mallorca
RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Barceló Viajes, a leading Spanish travel operator, has chosen Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to consolidate its datacenters that support the company's mission-critical business platforms. By virtualizing its systems, Barceló aims to reduce its server farm by half. With Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Barceló has enhanced the ease of management of its systems and has experienced improved flexibility, scalability and performance.
Following an agreement with American Express Travel to form the joint venture “American Express Barceló Viajes”, one of the leading Spanish corporate travel companies, Barceló required the installation of a new Business Continuity Plan, which required the establishment of a new datacenter in Madrid, in addition to the Palma de Mallorca datacenter. Barceló expanded its existing deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux to its new datacenter, and implemented Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization across all of its systems to support all of Barceló’s operating and business applications, including SAP solutions, Oracle databases, e-mail management, internal project management applications and monitoring.
"We cannot afford any service downtime. Having carried out successful projects with Red Hat, we were confident this implementation would be rolled out smoothly. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offered a highly reliable foundation for our mission-critical applications that is capable of supporting large workloads. It has enabled smooth integration with the rest of our operating applications," said Mar Muñoz, systems director, Barceló Viajes.
In addition to a new Business Continuity Plan, Barceló also required a solution that could meet the continuous growth of its service offerings. Barceló’s legacy systems required an ongoing expansion of its server farm, resulting in increasingly complex management and growth of human and hardware resources. By virtualizing its platform with Red Hat, Barceló expects to improve the scalability of its infrastructure and gain the ability to take full advantage of the resources available. Red Hat is working with Barceló with the objective of reducing its server farm by half and enabling Barceló to realize savings in operating costs, energy consumption and space.
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager provides Barceló with a simpler and more efficient management tool for its platforms. Amongst other functionalities, the organization can deploy new virtual servers in a few minutes, thus responding more quickly to an increase in demand for its IT services.
"Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization based on KVM technology provides us with enhanced capabilities, such as live migration, high availability, system scheduler and power saver, that combined with the solution's cost efficiency and powerful performance, meets Barceló's business needs. We are convinced that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization will continue to provide market-leading capabilities," said Muñoz. "Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization has a promising product roadmap that we consider very powerful."

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization expected to deliver significant cost savings
RALEIGH, NC - October 12, 2025 - Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Jeppesen, a Boeing Company and a leading provider of products, services and software for the aviation industry, has chosen to standardize its business-critical software build systems for its crew and fleet optimization software on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.
Jeppesen, already a long-time user of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Network Satellite, has migrated business-critical systems to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. Jeppesen achieved close to bare metal performance during its testing of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, demonstrating that the Red Hat platform can help the company to achieve its goal of reducing both hardware costs and time to market. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization delivers flexibility, scalability, security and cost-effectiveness to Oxilion's new virtual datacenter service
Raleigh, NC - June 10, 2025 - Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Netherlands hosting company Oxilion has launched a virtual datacenter service for its customers using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization as its foundational virtualization technology. Oxilion customers now have the advantages of a highly flexible, scalable and cost-effective environment with the freedom to manage their own infrastructure over the Internet.
Oxilion's virtual datacenter service enables its customers to configure networks, storage and systems in the same way as with a physical datacenter, but with the ease and convenience of doing so remotely, using a web-based portal. This is designed to deliver benefits typically associated with cloud computing, such as zero capital expenditure, "pay as you go" pricing and the elasticity to scale up or down to meet changing business requirements.
Today's launch of the Oxilion virtual datacenter based on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is the culmination of Oxilion's year-long search for a reliable technology partner to help it meet growing market demand for a virtual datacenter service. The company found many vendor solutions too costly, while the traditional proprietary licensing model was a barrier to innovation.
Development of the virtual datacenter service took just ten weeks, with Red Hat providing the infrastructure through its Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization product and Oxilion developing the portal through which customers gain a personalized view of their systems.
Henk Jan Hogebrug, sales manager at Oxilion, notes the advantages to Oxilion customers of basing the new service on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, "Red Hat has enabled us to provide our customers with the winning combination of advanced virtualization technology, a stable, secure solution and very competitive pricing."
"We have been able to deliver an innovative service to our customers with a partner like Red Hat, which works to the same high standards and rapid timescales as we do," said Larik-Jan Verschuren, technical manager at Oxilion.
