Qatar Exchange Turns to Red Hat for a Reliable, Scalable and High-Performance Trading Platform

Leading stock exchange in the Gulf Cooperation Council region migrates from AIX and Windows to Red Hat Enterprise Linux to transform its world-class securities exchange

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that the Qatar Exchange, the principal stock market of Qatar and one of the leading stock markets in the Gulf Cooperation Council region (GCC region), has migrated from IBM AIX and Microsoft Windows to Red Hat Enterprise Linux to provide a high-performance trading platform for investors in the Qatari market.

Qatar Exchange was established through a strategic partnership between Qatar Holding and NYSE Euronext on June 2009. Qatar Exchange offers investors the benefits of a world-class securities market and exchange operating sophisticated and state-of-the-art technology systems where speed and accuracy of transactions are key. To deliver this level of service to local and international investors in Qatar, companies and markets demanded a stable, scalable and high-performance, yet cost-effective, IT infrastructure to underpin mission-critical back-office applications and the core trading platform.

With reliable performance and security criteria in mind, Qatar Exchange’s team selected Red Hat as its trusted technology partner, building its mission-critical trading platform and back-office systems on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Network Satellite and Red Hat clustering technologies.

The migration of Qatar Exchange's mission-critical trading applications and databases from IBM AIX to Red Hat Enterprise Linux has since offered improved levels of operational flexibility. Red Hat's open source strategy has also offered Qatar Exchange a long-term infrastructure roadmap based on open source technologies, which offer robust security and ease of management. Red Hat Enterprise Linux was a logical fit as it not only met these criteria but is also the technology platform at NYSE Euronext, which helped to ease integration and enabled homogeneity across the exchanges' IT architectures.

“Qatar Exchange currently executes around 4,000 exchange transactions per day and 12,000 orders per day, making the trading platform a truly mission-critical application that needs to perform reliably under pressure,” said Jassim Bukashisha, IT director at Qatar Exchange. “Unplanned downtime is not an option, so we need to be confident that we have the right technology partner behind us. Red Hat provided us with an enterprise-class solution that is high in performance, incredibly robust and proven to be secure, all at an affordable price without any compromise on performance.”

Qatar Exchange selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux to run its trading applications, while utilizing Red Hat Network Satellite for system updates and Red Hat clustering for maximizing uptime for this vital transaction platform. In addition to Red Hat, the trading platform ecosystem integrates Oracle to run the trading databases and Tomcat for web user interfaces. The system runs on HP - DL 380 rack-mounted servers running Intel x86 CPUs, while providing storage by HP - EVA 4400 and SAN switches by Brocade. In addition, trading applications were provided by NYSE Euronext technologies and the system is equipped to run in-house developed applications.

Leading Spanish Travel Operator Chooses Red Hat to Virtualize Its IT Environment

Barceló Viajes relies on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to consolidate its datacenters in Madrid and Palma de Mallorca

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Barceló Viajes, a leading Spanish travel operator, has chosen Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to consolidate its datacenters that support the company's mission-critical business platforms. By virtualizing its systems, Barceló aims to reduce its server farm by half. With Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Barceló has enhanced the ease of management of its systems and has experienced improved flexibility, scalability and performance.

Following an agreement with American Express Travel to form the joint venture “American Express Barceló Viajes”, one of the leading Spanish corporate travel companies, Barceló required the installation of a new Business Continuity Plan, which required the establishment of a new datacenter in Madrid, in addition to the Palma de Mallorca datacenter. Barceló expanded its existing deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux to its new datacenter, and implemented Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization across all of its systems to support all of Barceló’s operating and business applications, including SAP solutions, Oracle databases, e-mail management, internal project management applications and monitoring.

"We cannot afford any service downtime. Having carried out successful projects with Red Hat, we were confident this implementation would be rolled out smoothly. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offered a highly reliable foundation for our mission-critical applications that is capable of supporting large workloads. It has enabled smooth integration with the rest of our operating applications," said Mar Muñoz, systems director, Barceló Viajes.

In addition to a new Business Continuity Plan, Barceló also required a solution that could meet the continuous growth of its service offerings. Barceló’s legacy systems required an ongoing expansion of its server farm, resulting in increasingly complex management and growth of human and hardware resources. By virtualizing its platform with Red Hat, Barceló expects to improve the scalability of its infrastructure and gain the ability to take full advantage of the resources available. Red Hat is working with Barceló with the objective of reducing its server farm by half and enabling Barceló to realize savings in operating costs, energy consumption and space.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager provides Barceló with a simpler and more efficient management tool for its platforms. Amongst other functionalities, the organization can deploy new virtual servers in a few minutes, thus responding more quickly to an increase in demand for its IT services.

"Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization based on KVM technology provides us with enhanced capabilities, such as live migration, high availability, system scheduler and power saver, that combined with the solution's cost efficiency and powerful performance, meets Barceló's business needs. We are convinced that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization will continue to provide market-leading capabilities," said Muñoz. "Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization has a promising product roadmap that we consider very powerful."

Jeppesen Migrates Business-Critical Logistics Systems to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization expected to deliver significant cost savings

RALEIGH, NC - October 12, 2025 - Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Jeppesen, a Boeing Company and a leading provider of products, services and software for the aviation industry, has chosen to standardize its business-critical software build systems for its crew and fleet optimization software on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.

Jeppesen, already a long-time user of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Network Satellite, has migrated business-critical systems to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. Jeppesen achieved close to bare metal performance during its testing of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, demonstrating that the Red Hat platform can help the company to achieve its goal of reducing both hardware costs and time to market. By standardizing on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Jeppesen expects to achieve significant total cost savings over the first three years of deployment.

"Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization proved itself to be the clear leader during our testing, as it clearly demonstrated that it has the necessary performance levels to enable us to achieve our cost-saving targets," said Annika Hansson, IT manager at Jeppesen. "Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provides us with an ideal platform to get the most out of our current hardware at a very attractive price point."

Jeppesen develops crew and fleet optimization systems for the transportation industry. It uses a method of "continuous integration" in its software engineering process whereby any new developments to the software undergo continuous and thorough automated testing.

"We cannot afford any downtime of our build systems as this would mean that we cannot provide critical updates and fixes for our customers whose businesses depend on our optimization software," said Kalle Kiviaho, systems administrator at Jeppesen. "Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provides the reliability and scalability that we demand and has given us confidence to trust our business to run on it."

Dutch Hosting Provider Oxilion Launches Public Cloud Service Based on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization delivers flexibility, scalability, security and cost-effectiveness to Oxilion's new virtual datacenter service

Raleigh, NC - June 10, 2025 - Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Netherlands hosting company Oxilion has launched a virtual datacenter service for its customers using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization as its foundational virtualization technology. Oxilion customers now have the advantages of a highly flexible, scalable and cost-effective environment with the freedom to manage their own infrastructure over the Internet.

Oxilion's virtual datacenter service enables its customers to configure networks, storage and systems in the same way as with a physical datacenter, but with the ease and convenience of doing so remotely, using a web-based portal. This is designed to deliver benefits typically associated with cloud computing, such as zero capital expenditure, "pay as you go" pricing and the elasticity to scale up or down to meet changing business requirements.

Today's launch of the Oxilion virtual datacenter based on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is the culmination of Oxilion's year-long search for a reliable technology partner to help it meet growing market demand for a virtual datacenter service. The company found many vendor solutions too costly, while the traditional proprietary licensing model was a barrier to innovation.

Development of the virtual datacenter service took just ten weeks, with Red Hat providing the infrastructure through its Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization product and Oxilion developing the portal through which customers gain a personalized view of their systems.

Henk Jan Hogebrug, sales manager at Oxilion, notes the advantages to Oxilion customers of basing the new service on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, "Red Hat has enabled us to provide our customers with the winning combination of advanced virtualization technology, a stable, secure solution and very competitive pricing."

"We have been able to deliver an innovative service to our customers with a partner like Red Hat, which works to the same high standards and rapid timescales as we do," said Larik-Jan Verschuren, technical manager at Oxilion.

Millennium Global Investments (MGI) Standardizes on Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Middleware

Deployment of JBoss Enterprise BRMS improves scalability, efficiency and risk management for investment company

Raleigh, NC – January 20, 2025 – Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Millennium Global Investments (MGI), a specialist in developing and managing alternative investment products for institutional investors, has selected JBoss Enterprise BRMS (Business Rules Management System) for its mission-critical business rules repository.

London-based MGI wanted to improve the flexibility of its compliance system so that its business and trade rules could be revised and adjusted rapidly within a managed environment. MGI selected JBoss Enterprise BRMS to bring business rules into a managed environment, standardise business rules and support the scalability of the business.

The transparency of the new repository enables MGI business users to gain access to detailed information about why certain rules may prevent trading. This access improves business users' efficiency and reduces the number of queries sent to MGI’s IT organisation. The transparent business rules repository is also an essential part of MGI’s risk management strategy

“Red Hat's flexible subscription terms for JBoss Enterprise Middleware allowed us to deploy only the components needed for the new platform and to avoid vendor lock-in. Unlike other vendors, Red Hat offers the ability to support other applications of the rules engine, be it market signal monitoring or algorithmic trading,” said Richard Macaskill, managing director, IT & Systems Development, MGI. “We were very pleased with the level of support Red Hat provided during the new business rules repository's development. We are extremely satisfied to have deployed an integrated business rules platform that has improved our efficiency and ability to manage risk.”

Security Depository Center of Jordan Places Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Center of its Open Source Strategy

Flexibility, cost savings and compatibility drive selection of Red Hat as its enabler for customer-focused technology development

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Jordan's Security Depositary Center (SDC), a non-profit public utility institution that oversees the registration and deposit of securities, has implemented Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the foundation to its open source strategy.

SDC is currently implementing a number of e-services applications within an open source environment, including an e-payment system and the SDC Portal, which offers a wide range of electronic services. These services include enhanced account viewing, public data, statistical data, electronic initial public offering (e-IPO) and mailbox services.

In addition to the traditional benefits of working with open source, such as access to code, cost reduction and flexibility, SDC recognised the value of Red Hat Enterprise Linux interoperability as it deployed and developed with a range of hardware, including IBM and Dell. SDC has 20 x86 servers running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux that drive a range of applications, including mail systems, its web portal and intranet.

Key to SDC's technology agility and management is the ability to manage its entire Linux environment from one console. Red Hat Network Satellite allows SDC to investigate and fix technical issues in a timely manner and with internal resources - assuring consistent run rates and performance.

“The main advantage to using open source and working with Red Hat is the flexibility to develop and maintain our technology assets internally,” said Samir Jaradat, CEO of SDC. “Red Hat not only saves us money, but it also provides us with a level of technology sophistication and interoperability that gives us the tools to develop solutions that directly meet the needs of our business.”

BBP Builds Reliable Reputation on Integrated Open Source Development Stack

SUCCESS STORY HIGHLIGHTS

BBP develops financial messaging applications that are offered to financial institutions on an in-house or service bureau basis for SWIFT, SIC, and other financial networks. BBP guarantees continuous interbank connection availability and 24x7 access to its IGTplus middleware. Given the sensitivity of the application and the underlying data, BBP required an application infrastructure that could meet its stringent requirements for security and availability. BBP chose Red Hat and Ingres technologies due to comprehensive functionality provided by the individual products as well as the fact that the products were pre-integrated, fully certified, tested, and tuned for performance.

This solution was also chosen because both Ingres and Red Hat are well known for providing 24x7 support and maintenance to enterprises around the world. Cost was an important factor as well. Deployed since 2003, the application provides software and services to hundreds of banks throughout Europe as well as other countries including the United States.

Kliniken des Landkreises Lörrach enhances patient care and cuts costs with IBM, Red Hat and SAP

FAST FACTS

Customer: Kliniken des Landkreises Lörrach

Industry: Healthcare

Country: Germany

Solution: Enterprise Resource Planning, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Optimizing IT, Supply Chain Management

Business Partner: IBM, SAP, EGT InformationsSysteme

Business Need:
Kliniken des Landkreises Lörrach, a hospital with 1,400 staff and an annual budget of around €100 million, wanted to improve both business and clinical efficiency. Users found that SAP applications were slow to respond to their requests, as the underlying database had reached its performance limit. The system could not be extended or developed, and the database had to be taken offline for maintenance.

Solution:
The hospital implemented the latest SAP applications and selected IBM DB2 running under Red Hat Enterprise Linux on the IBM BladeCenter platform. It also chose IBM System Storage and IBM System x hardware to support a new storage area network for clinical imaging.

Benefits:
SAP application and database response times have been cut by more than 30 per cent, and users gain rapid, reliable access to critical business data. Database maintenance can be completed online, avoiding interruptions, and a clustering solution ensures system reliability. The new SAN offers scalable storage up to 112TB, a tenfold increase in current capacity.

“Our 32-bit operating system was limited to 4GB of main memory, which was limiting our ability to improve performance. Running 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM blade servers immediately allowed us to increase system RAM to 16GB, and this alone produced significant improvements in performance.”
-Dieter Reichl, Head of Business Technology

LearnDirect

With systems needing to be available 24 hours per day, 365 days per week, there was no room for outages or failure. A reliable, high performance system was needed to replace learndirect's Visual Basic-based legacy system, which was outdated and costly to support. A requirement to work with the source code and to adopt the most cost effective solution led learndirect to open source solutions from Red Hat.

Software: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0, JBoss Application Server 4.0.3, Hibernate 3.0.5, JBoss Clustering and current investigating JBossCache 1.4.1

Hardware: 4 x IBM Blade Servers

Services: Gold-Level JBoss Subscription, JBoss Operations Network, Red Hat Support, JBoss Training

Benefits: Immediate savings from choosing open source software with zero licencing costs. In addition, learndirect could easily scaled out its architecture as needed with no more incremental licensing costs An increase in system performance and stability with an application server which outperformed its proprietary competitors in extensive testing. The new JBoss-based learndirect system is currently running at 99.989% uptime Rapid development and time to market, thanks to the transparency of the software's source code

In terms of performance levels, JBoss Application Server actually came out as the fastest and this was a key factor in our decision as service levels to users are of upmost importance. As the evaluation continued we soon realised that JBoss competed extremely well with the proprietary alternatives and when we considered that scaling JBoss out as far as we liked would not create any extra licence costs on our bottom line, the decision was a very easy one to make – we chose open source from JBoss,” concluded Mather.
